REVIEW: Rainbow High Rockstars Lyric Lucas

Well, I've been to war with these new releases. Heh. I had to stalk Target for days to finally get all three Rockstars, then stalk Walmart for Slumber Party. Returns have been involved and my Marisa still hasn't shipped, so she might be cancelled.

My plan was to do each trio together, but I got a flawed Vanessa and ordered 2 more just yesterday, so my new plan was to review one Rockstar and one Slumber Party. Then Brianna's hell gel ruined that.

So...long story short, only Lyric for now!

Back of the box.

Lyric wasn't a winner right off the bat either. Carmen was the only one I got a good one of right away. My first Lyric was flawed, so I ordered two more and then struggled to choose. The one above actually had tiny black specks on her lower lip while the other option had perfect lips, but there was something I loved about this one. I opened the box carefully, slid the tray out and was able to wipe the specks off her lip, so she was the one I picked to keep.

Lyric's musical accessory is her microphone. This is the only photo of it in this review. I plan to show all three with their accessories once I get a good Vanessa.

Then she's got the usual stand, comb and 2 hangers.

Her second outfit is a white tee, black sporty shirt, black "leather" skirt with a white belt, and tall white boots.

Both of Lyric's pairs of shoes have rainbow soles. They're pretty awesome that way.

A lot of people do not like this doll. I was one of them at first. I hated the thick dark line over her eyeshadow. I still don't think it's really necessary, but Lyric has grown on me a lot.

Her main problem is that she's too much. Let's ditch the earrings, coat and hat.

That is already so much better!

I actually like the earrings, but I set them aside because I knew I was going to condition her hair.

I really like her black tee and these pants might be my favorite single piece from the entire Rockstar line. Her shoes and gloves are great, too.

Her eye makeup is serious. There is a LOT going on. The sections of rainbow color creep up over the darker border line on top, so choose your doll carefully. The one I didn't choose had the yellow up there and it was far more noticeable than this one's orange.

Her lips are light, but they're not too light. I like the color a lot. Reminds me of someone.

Aha, yes. Jade!

I hate the combo of Lyric's second outfit. She looks much better as a toned-down rocker than...whatever that other look even is. But her hat and the sporty shirt work well on Jade. I mean, as much as that hat can work on anyone. It doesn't stay on very well, but it looks cute, so she'll keep it for a while.

Lyric's hair is a series of bizarre choices. It's just so many colors! I read someone describe it as the box or pouch you kept all your crayons in and all the colors got everywhere. That's not inaccurate at all. I wish they'd done the purple and dark brown blend for most of it and then had the chunky rainbow streaks. That's the illusion it gives from the front.

Quality-wise, it's nice. No gel. She just needed conditioning to get rid of the box hair crinkles. (These pics were taken before the salon time.)

Bits of the second outfit.

Man, those boots are bad. I love RH, but they struggle so much with taller boots. These make her legs look way too big.

Not a fan of the belt. Let's take care of that.

Better!

These pieces aren't great as an outfit at all, but they are nice mix and match bits. I love the leather skirt and the tee is super cute.

One last (not great) pic of the outfit I'll be putting back on her once her hair is dry. I'll add the earrings, too.

So Lyric is awesome. I got her to check her out in person, even though I didn't care for her owner photos, and I fell for this particular doll. Sometimes it takes just the right one. The majority of her outfit pieces are nice as long as they're not together. I even think the jacket might look good on another doll someday. The boots are the only piece I doubt I'll ever use and that's less the design and more the execution.

Give Lyric a try. She may surprise you! I know she did me.
