Well, they're finally naming one of them. Took long enough.
So the pink/purple unicorn hair one we've been seeing for ages is Kishiko.
Hmm. Japanese name. The actress looks East Asian.

Yeah, I can. Why is this doll so white?
She's cute in a weird way, but without the name or the actress, anyone would think she's white. If this is live action (and I'm not convinced it is), the doll needed to look more like the actress. Even if it isn't, the doll needed to look more like the actress. She's gorgeous! Yet another East Asian character turned into a white-passing doll in these modern doll lines. It's sad.
The detail looks nice and I do like the sculpt, though as I said, she's cute in a weird way. She looks way better here than in the leaks though, which is an improvement because she was downright freaky there. I'm looking forward to seeing the others.

ReplyDeleteI'm fine with the skintone. East Asians have a variety. The eyes are definitely not like the actress's though. I'm just tired of these modern big-eyed lines having East Asian characters that either look exactly like their other dolls or look white. Rainbow High is finally improving so this being MGAE's Japanese character for their new line is a big step backward and very disappointing.
