OVERVIEW: Earth 2 Jane

Jane and Liberty
Earth 2 Jane was a short-lived fashion doll line from 2005 that had the most extensive non-doll product line I've ever seen paired with such a small line.

The dolls are 10" tall with articulation at the neck, shoulders, hips and click knees. Each has a magnet in her hands so she can carry a small accessory. Each doll came with two outfits. They're quite well-made for such a random line. They were produced by Learning Curve, which eventually became part of Tomy.

Jane is the fashion designer. She has lovely Kimber-esque neon red hair with some pink highlights and big purple-blue eyes. Each E2J doll has a flower shape in her iris, which makes them very distinct. I think it's cute. Her clothing favors pink, white and black. I can't remember what her magnetic accessory was and it's not obvious from the one boxed picture I found during a Google search, so argh.

Jett and Paris
Liberty is the rock star. She came with a really nice guitar, which I always have mine carrying. Liberty is tan like your typical blonde Barbie tan. She had rich brown hair with lighter brown streaks and brown eyes. Her color is definitely purple and her magnetic accessory is a microphone.

Jett is my favorite. She's the photographer and her magnetic accessory is a camera. For some reason, she came with roller skates. Mine has not been out of this outfit on the right here since I took the other photo you'll see in a minute when I first got her. She went right back in these clothes. She's the antagonist of the line, envious of Jane. Jett has this gorgeous honey-toned skin. It's not something I've seen in toylines before or since, which is why I described Liberty's tan the way I did. Liberty's color I've seen before, but Jett's I have not. I love her short choppy black hair and brown eyes. Her color scheme is neon green, white and peach. She's just awesome. She's always someplace in my room when I can see her.

Jett refusing to wear the scarf she came with.

Paris is the poet. Her magnetic accessory is a tiny book, which I have managed to keep her holding for years now. She has the same honey skin as Jett, but paired with short light blonde hair, blue eyes and freckles. She has glasses and wears a lot of pink.

Each doll also has an animal character that's featured on their secondary outfit and comb. Jane has a monkey, Jett a frog, Paris a rabbit and Liberty a mouse.

These dolls really did come with a ton. Two tops, two bottoms, two pairs of shoes, a scarf, sunglasses, a paper shopping bag, a comb, the magnetic accessory.

Liberty in the clothes she never wore again.
The dolls seem to have been designed by Mary Lenehan, according to a website I found. She also did the US-released Totally Spies dolls.

It's really a shame they didn't do better, because I love both of the new characters that began showing up on the other merchandise for the line. Tess looks like she would have had the Paris/Jett skintone with long crimped brown hair with lighter streaks. She seems to be a surfer girl and her animal is a hamster. I think? I'm trying to glean some imfo from sticker and journal photos on Pinterest. (Yay for obscure lines.) Emma is paler with dark brown wavy hair. I can't tell much about her, but I believe her animal is a dog, because there are stickers on ebay that include a dog.

Paris's second outfit

The amount of random Earth 2 Jane stuff is really mind-boggling. If you go on ebay, you will not see a single doll, but you will see thank you notes, napkins, stickers, party hats, gift bags and other party items. I have several stickers, some postcards and even a couple small notebooks I found in a local drug store a few years ago, but still several years after E2J was relevant.

I was going to include some sticker scans, but this post is mainly about the dolls, so I decided to stick with the doll images. I don't have that much to say, so I can't continue to ramble endlessly and insert photos. If you Google the line name, you'll find the photos. Or if you really want to see something, just ask and I'll see what I can do.

The mysterious deluxe line
The last thing I'll leave you with is this teeny tiny photo of three unreleased dolls. I remember seeing listings for deluxe E2J dolls that were never in stock. I don't recall ever seeing a boxed one or anything other than these tiny photos of Liberty, Paris and Jett. It's a shame we never got these, because that Jett in particular looks awesome.

So in conclusion, I love Earth 2 Jane. If I had to name the Top 10 Underrated Doll Lines in My Collection, they'd be on that list. Maybe not Top 5, but definitely Top 10.

PHOTO CREDITS: All mine except the tiny deluxe pictures. I found those on Worthpoint and Painted them together into one image.

This board has some good images, including art of Jett in her deluxe doll outfit, and some images of Tess from a scrapbook that I now need to try to hunt down.

For boxed doll pics, just Google image search! They're not very good, but they're something.

  4. Wow! Thanks for the shout-out. E2J was a labor of love and I wish we could have done more with it at the time. FYI: There were plans for integrated accessories to take further advantage of the magnets features that never were realized. I was really sad about that - also the bitchin' car I designed for her would have put Barbie's vehicle to shame! LOL oh well..... Mary L
