Let's see if we can improve upon last time. I sure hope so!
So the girls are out in the woods with no powers but a heap of bitching from Stella.
Earlier, Flora is unhappy because that day is the practical spells camping trip, which she's been looking forward to all year. Bloom is like "We can't go?"
AISHA: Yeah, genius. FG sealed our magical powers, remember?
That seems unnecessarily rude. Channeling some Fate Aisha there.
Now I do have to say that I think FG should either lift the seal for the trip or let them do it at a later date. If it's something school-related, they should be allowed their magic.
Stella is clearly pleased about this. Flora says it would be too dangerous and they'd never get to go. Griselda appears and says otherwise. FG is letting them go and they're expected to complete the assignment, because a good fairy shouldn't rely solely on magic.
Yeah, this is some typical teen hero genre type stuff here. Authority figure sends them into a dangerous situation regardless of logic.
I want to take a moment to appreciate the backgrounders. I love all the witch/warlock designs, but there's also a fairy with pink and green hair that I'm fond of.
Stella is not happy. Bloom says she's been camping a lot with her dad and everything should be fine.
Naturally, the Trix overhear, so it's guaranteed things will not be fine.
And now we're back in the woods. Stella's hair is particularly hideous and she's...wearing heels. Would original Season 1 Stella be that dumb? I don't think so. Thankfully, practical Bloom brought spare boots and even picked ones cute enough to suit Stella.
There's a growl and everyone's on edge. A cute monster comes out and Flora's all dramatic. But Bloom's all "I've got it" and feeds it a sandwich. She says he just looks hungry and tosses another sandwich that he runs off after.
The girls continue walking, Stella continues bitching.
Up in a tree, Robin is watching. She reports to FG that Bloom is stepping it up. FG says to keep watch and if anything happens, bring in the other Specialists.
In the Trix lair, Icy is watching but Damien pops into her spell bubble and says there's an emergency and they need to come over. Vexius is apparently the emergency and he bitches at everyone. Icy shows him the current situation and he thinks this is a fine time to steal the dragonflame. Damien wants to help, showing off his own fire, which Vexius and the witches make fun of, but he still gets to go along.
The girls make it to their campsite and there are lots of flowers and cute animals. Camping montage. Musa and Aisha are amusingly bad at setting up a tent.
Flora recognizes a pitcher tree, which collects rainwater. Musa goes for a drink only to get soaked.
Tecna tells Bloom they need fire and asks how to make that happen. Bloom's got it under control.
Robin keeps watching, satisfied.
The Trix are also hovering and Icy freezes Robin, though she seems to manage to reach her communication watch thingy. I really hope there are some repercussions this time. How many times have the Trix done something and not one Winx has told FG about it? Why are they covering up their involvement?
Tecna is off to the side, playing a game on her phone. The others chit chat and Bloom goes to fetch Tecna. She says there's nothing to be afraid of, they're just talking. Tecna says that is what she's afraid of. Bloom convinces Tecna it's okay and she smiles and brushes some of her hair back. I've seen a lot of people complaining that she was designed with so much hair in her face, but it's clearly to show her character. Perhaps as time passes, she'll change her hairstyle to something closer to her transformed cut.
Musa has a song she's written about everyone, as she's never had friends like them before. Cute musical montage.
After, Stella puts Bloom on the spot. All the girls want to know about Sky and what's going on there.
TECNA: Tell us. Or there's a 63% chance I will write ship fic.
OMG. I love her so much!
Bloom says they've been texting every night, but Sky and Diaspro made up and she doesn't want to get in the way. Made up? When were they fighting? Why was this not mentioned? Bloom turns things on Stella and she gushes about Brandon for a moment. Flora says an ordinary boy and a royal princess is romantic, while Stella says "Yeah, that's going to be a whole thing with my parents." Then she asks Flora what's up with her. She mentions Damien and says they're just friends, but he's sensitive and she wants to invite him to hang out. Of course he's listening.
At Red Fountain, presumably, Sky and Brandon are in some sort of Danger Room-style training space. They have their own version of girl talk. Sky says he's thinking about Bloom because she's out camping with no powers, then asks if Brandon is worried about Stella. Brandon asks why he'd be worried about her over anyone else, but his mannerisms clearly show interest.
Back in the woods, the Trix cast a spell around Damien, who summons his own fire in an attempt to coax Bloom's out, even though it's sealed. He thinks about Flora for a second though and his flame dies. Icy berates him, then gives up on the plan. Darcy asks if they're going home and Icy says they're going to kick some Winx ass while they can, just to get some revenge on the times they've embarrassed them. Musa thinks she hears something and she definitely does. Stormy and Icy go in for an attack, causing the Winx to flee. Darcy asks Icy if she's overdoing it, but Stormy's fully into the ass-kicking destruction part.
STORMY: How often do we get to cut loose and destroy everything? This is basically my dream come true!
She's so excited. I love her.
Damien tries to get them to back off the others, but Stormy binds him and tosses him aside.
Robin finally is able to reach her watch. Red alert at Red Fountain. Hey, they remembered Timmy exists.
The Trix are after the Winx. I wasn't sure if Darcy was going to participate but she blasts Musa and sends her to the ground. Aisha grabs her though and runs with her on her back for a bit. Nice! Then the Specialists arrive. Sky, Brandon and Riven fly down on hoverboard things and set up an invisibility shield around themselves and the Winx. The Trix fly past. Tummy says there's no sign of Robin, which is unlike her. Bloom tells Sky to go find Robin. The Winx can handle the Trix. Sky tells Timmy to buy the Winx as much time as he can while he and the others go after Robin. Brandon drops Stella a wink.
STELLA: Those bangs are living rent-free in my head.
Ha! Okay, that made up for some of her annoying whining.
Pretty satisfying to see Timmy blast Icy into a tree.
Then Bloom's got everyone gathered together and there's a plan.
Stormy nails Timmy's ship and he's gotta "break off." Whatever that means. Retreat or just stop distracting the Trix? The witches laugh and then see Stella in a tree, signaling with a mirror. They fly after her. Aisha takes on Icy using only a tent pole and actually does amazing. Bloom's got Darcy and Stormy, but Stella blinds Stormy, causing her to blast without seeing, which hits Stella. Darcy mind spells Bloom for a moment. Stormy is after the others and Musa throws a rock, briefly distracting her. Darcy is approaching Bloom, who throws a sandwich in her face. The monster from earlier is totally on that. Hilarious! Darcy feeds him, then Icy freezes him, and they're chasing Aisha and Bloom. The Trix surround the Winx and Icy postures for a bit, gathering a huge blast of power. She asks where Bloom thought she was going and Bloom replies "Exactly here!" She throws a tent pole, knocking into one of the pitcher tree's pitchers, which dumps a load of water over the Trix, freezing them into place. The Winx run while the Trix start to break free, but the Specialists are back and teleport them onto the ship. The Trix pout amusingly. Robin is also onboard and she's getting defrosted.
In FG's office, she makes things sound bad, but then says things would have been worse if not for Bloom. She says no, it was all of them. FG says she means Bloom's leadership in the face of adversity and restores everyone's powers. She also mentions that the Trix will have repercussions. Finally.
At the stable, Flora finds Damien. She asks if he's okay and he says he messed something up and his dad let him have it for being weak. Flora says he's stronger than he knows and walks away. Vexius watches, narrowing his eyes.
END
Okay, that was a simple episode, but way better!
Faves list:
-Tecna: She remains on top thanks to her adorable characterization and line delivery.
-Stormy: I love how fun Stormy is and I like her voice.
-Darcy: I like when Darcy gets to use her powers, but she also gets points for being the most human of the Trix.
-Bloom: She kicked ass in this ep. It's nice to see her making good decisions.
-Flora: She's sweet as always.
-Aisha: I thought she was a bit bitchy with that first line, but she made up for it by kicking serious butt and taking on Icy by herself. I feel like we still don't know much about her personality, but she's a physical force and that counts as development enough to bump her up the list.
-Stella/Musa: These two are tied. Stella can be annoying but she's also funny. Musa I think I'd love if they would just give her more screentime. That was the perfect opportunity for an explanation of her and Riven, but she didn't get a mention at all.
-Icy: She has her moments.
I'm eagerly awaiting Tecna and Musa being delivered today!
