REVIEW: Mirror Mi AMORA VALENTINA

 

I did not initially care for Amora. I didn't have an outright issue with her, like I do with others, but I saw her legs and just wrote her off as a Cupid knockoff. I was confused why she was the only one with weird legs. I still think it's an odd choice. Why does she have this extremely inhuman feature when the others don't? The only other really unnatural thing is Suki being chalk white. Yeah, Shai and Akiko have odd-colored legs, but not on the same level as this. 

Buuuuuuuut I decided Blaze needed a friend on hand, especially because most of my dolls will be packed for a while. 

The chocolates are very cute. Love the purse, too. 

The more I thought about how horrific this would be in person, the more I got to like Amora. I decided she's the sweet, pretty girl who's really into horror. I'm used to the filled legs from Novi Stars and RH, but there's something off-putting about it when the regular skintone just fades into clear, heart blood-filled legs. 

Her shoes are very pretty. 

 

I don't love that both brown girls have silky, lighter hair and light eyes. How stunning would she be with big brown eyes? Or with some texture? She's beautiful, but man, with brown eyes, she would have been beyond. 

 

She did win me over with her endearing expression though. Charlie Bears have several characters with eye whites under their plastic eyes and the designer refers to this look as "who, me?" eyes. Amora has who, me? eyes. But there's also a little sadness there for me. This isn't just some over the top flirt. She's got an interesting depth to her. 

I also immediately got a Fluttershy vibe from Amora. That's one thing in favor of this eye color. The eyes, the expression, all the pink...blonde isn't pale yellow but it's still reminiscent. Then Blaze started to make me think of Sunset Shimmer. And seriously, Blaze Maxx? Amora Valentina? Luna Skye? Shai Meadows? They all have pony names. 

Not that any of that is bad. I love me some My Little Pony.

REVIEW: Mirror Mi BLAZE MAXX

 

This line has been the talk of doll world lately. A lot of people love the detailed and unique look of the dolls, while others were left with a bad taste in their mouths from the lack of women at the influencer event and the utter failure that was the initial drop. 

Thankfully, the dolls were quick to come to Amazon and restocked once on the MGA Shop, too. And people with faster Targets than mine are starting to find them in stores. 

Blaze seems like she'd be my obvious favorite, but I think it might be Suki. Or they're tied. Hopefully, Suki comes out soon so we can find out. 

Gonna be honest. As usual. I HATE the purse. Hate it. Absolutely. Sometimes I love object purses, but this is definitely not one of those times. I also didn't take pics of her with any of this stuff. The food is cute, but not what I'd pose her with. 

Also not a fan of the guitar. I admit I've been spoiled by Integrity and Loyal Subjects Jem instruments but for $30, maybe we could get some painted strings at least? This isn't as bad as, say, a dollar store doll guitar, but it's on par with cheaper Barbie ones. 

The lava thigh highs are an interesting piece, but I'm not in love with them. 

The skirt is amazing. Pockets! Chains!

 

I want these in my size. 

Hiding them under the lava is not quite a crime but...almost. 

Gelled up hair, but I wanted to show the body before she hit the salon. 

These girls are 90% leg. They have very unusual proportions. Like the legs are shaped nicely, but the arms are a bit thin for those giant hands. And the torso is so short! Not really complaining, but you've gotta admit they're unusual.

I adore this doll. 

She's like a tiny magical creature that can sit in the palm of my hand.

The faces are so animated. She has a different expression depending on the angle or how much of her eyebrows are covered. 

Love herrrrrrrrrrr.

I cannot wait for Suki and Shai!

I don't think every one of them is perfect. There could have been some improvements in diversity. Different hair textures. Different body types. More brown eyes. But I do think they knocked it out of the park with Blaze.

REVIEW: LOL OMG Kuromi

Not a full review. I'm behind, so it's not like other people haven't shown her off a million times. 

I got her for two reasons. One, I really love the new faces. Two, I really really love her main hair color. 

I don't have a doll with this hair color and I'm not sure I've ever seen it before. 

Gorgeous as she is, I wish they'd done larger versions of some of the new characters instead. Doe and Skyla would be amazing in OMG form. I think the new style is strong enough that the initial offerings didn't all have to be collabs or celebs.

REVIEW: Moonspell Magic LAYLA STONE

Reviews for the time being are going to be done on my American Girl bookcase, so expect to see the same books in the background a lot. I'm thinking the mantel for a better space, but I can't get to it right now. Boxes. Boxes are everywhere. All my books and Charlie Bears are out and organized, but I still need to tackle my plushie collection, dolls, and other small toys. Baby steps. It's a lot. 

I wasn't impressed with Layla from promos, but in person, she is unreal. She instantly became my second fave after Claire.

And her face! She has an amazing nose that I didn't notice until after taking these review photos, but I took one of her profile on my camera and that's been up on Insta for a while. Best profile in the line. 

Super cute boots. Love these. 

She's perfect. 

Something about her reminds me of both Jem and 90s movies like The Craft. I wouldn't be surprised if she eventually ties with Claire for favorite. She's well on her way there. 

I do have Carina. I actually got both on the same day, but I didn't debox her until a day later and then I got too busy to take photos. And just now I forgot until after I'd taken my photos for the night. Maybe tomorrow!

REVIEW: American Girl Modern Kirsten

Here we are at last, the first review in my new apartment. It's been almost a month since the last one. 

I bought modern Kirsten during Prime Days, took these photos in the old apartment, and then promptly packed her. 

So last photos in the old place, but first review in the new.

I love her dress and her bracelet is adorable.

Cute barrettes. 

Cute purse. 

And cute little boots. I like her a lot, though she's not my fave. I'm more than happy to have gotten her on sale.
