In FG's office, FG says she's relieved no one was hurt and that the girls need to be smarter. Robin dismisses Stella and Flora, leaving Bloom behind. Bloom asks FG not to blame the others, as she was the one who messed up with the changelings. FG asks if Bloom did it for the right reasons and Bloom isn't sure. FG says there's a ceremony for new students and it will determine if they're fairies or witches. Bloom is upset there's a chance she might be a witch. Outside the office, Stella and Flora reassure Bloom that she's definitely a fairy.
I'm just going to call this dark room the Trix's lair. In the lair, Icy is watching Bloom again, so she knows about Bloom's insecurities. She says Bloom is the one their "mysterious friend" told them about and he's going to want them to take her magic. Bloom's "identity crisis" will allow them to do that. And Icy does this cackle, while Darcy and Stormy just stare at her. I like that they seem to realize how unhinged their sister is.
In the classroom, Aisha, Musa and Tecna are seated already. One of them asks if anyone has seen Bloom. The fact that I have no idea which one is speaking any of these lines is annoying. I miss the more varied voices. Stella and Flora come running in, followed shortly by Bloom. Musa says "Better late than never, I guess." I think she's the one who spoke first now? Aisha tells Bloom she needs to find a seat. Uh, duh, Aisha. I can't tell if that was kinda bitchy or if I'm reading a bit too much Fate 'verse Aisha into her. Bloom sees the Trix, who laugh. I guess they're all the same age now? They were seniors before. Flora saved Bloom a seat because of course she did. Flora's a good friend. Professor Wizgiz walks in and all the girls stand to greet him, except Bloom, who's doodling. Already. I guess this show is out to really make her look bad right off the start. Wizgiz says they're going to try to turn a dog into a cat and demonstrates, then asks for volunteers. Musa raises her hand, saying she was up all night practicing. This is not original Musa, that's for sure. Musa tries and creates a second dog. Tecna turns them both into one cat. Wizgiz asks Bloom if she'd like to try. Icy spells a sigil onto Bloom, giving her some witch magic, which turns the cat into a monster. Now how would the spell have worked if the cat was a cat? Should have been turned back into a dog first. Wizgiz takes care of the monster and the bell rings. Stella says she did worse on her first day and Flora adds "Much worse." Bloom worries.
Outside, Bloom walks across campus. Sky and Brandon are there. Do they go to the school, too? Like in Fate? Hmm. Hasn't been clarified yet. Sky calls out to Bloom, who asks exactly that. Thanks, Bloom. Sky says they sometimes take classes like History of Magix, but no magic classes. Brandon tosses him a football, which he catches and launches back, saying that will keep him busy. Diaspro interrupts the flirting session and is soooooooo annoying. This poor girl got the worst redesign on the show. She's basically a rich girl airhead now with an obnoxious voice and really bad hair. What I do like is that it is now obvious that Sky is taken, so there isn't the plotline of him lying to Bloom and cheating on Diaspro. Okay, I do think it's funny that she calls Bloom "Bloomer." She's already grown on me in seconds, but she's still disappointing, because Diaspro was one of the prettiest characters on the entire show.
Bloom spots the Trix and says that was a mean trick Icy played on her yesterday. Icy writes it off as a "funny trick between sisters" and a "witch tradition." Bloom says she's not a witch and Stormy laughs and says "Sure." Icy asks if Bloom is worried about the entrance test and Bloom says no, then stupidly admits she is. Darcy says they know a secret about that. Icy tells Bloom there's a room of reflection in the west tower that as the same magic the teachers use for the test. Bloom says thanks but no thanks.
In the Winx room, the girls are moving their stuff around. Aisha asks Stella to move some boxes and Stella protests that's her shoe collection. She suggests Aisha move her treadmill. Tecna, in a slightly robotic voice, turns away and says "Uncomfortable with argument."
Ah, guess who just instantly became my second favorite.
After Musa and Stella have their own argument, Bloom suggests the girls hang out that night as a bonding experience. Aisha says she doesn't know if that's her thing, then they cut to her on the couch, laughing between Flora and Bloom. Musa and Tecna are also laughing.
STELLA: And that's why I'm not allowed in the school library anymore.
And now Stella claims the third favorite spot.
Bloom wants to make this an actual party, so they get music (Musa), funky lights (Tecna), drinks (Aisha) and snacks. Bloom tries to pop some popcorn with her fire, but her witch sigil flares and Aisha has to put out the giant flames. (Faaaaaaaaaaaaate.) Bloom apologizes but the mood is ruined. Tecna asks if they can stop having fun now and everyone goes their separate ways.
Later that night, Bloom naturally goes to the room of reflection. Icy is there and Bloom is surrounded by multiple mirrors. Icy explains that this is how they determined who was a witch and who was a fairy back before FG's tests. The mirrors show an evil Bloom lighting everything on fire, including the other Winx. Because of course they do. Bloom, why the hell are you trusting Icy? Off to the side, the Trix are all there and Darcy snaps her fingers, making the mirrors disappear. Bloom begins to cry and Icy tells her to come to her when she's ready.
In the middle of a sad song montage, Bloom packs her things and finds the Trix outside, asking Icy to make her a portal to Gardenia. She leaves and the Trix laugh. Darcy says "How tragic. Bloom is now where the other girls can't protect her." But oh, Robin is watching. Hmm!
Bloom apparently goes straight back to her high school, not stopping at home first. Mitzi greets her as only Mitzi can. Bloom walks into a destroyed classroom and the Trix, in their witch gear, enter via portal. Icy takes the sigil off Bloom and says they want to steal her powers. It's all three Trix vs. Bloom, who isn't even trying to fire back. Then there's a flying bike outside the window and it's...ROBIN. Who is a SPECIALIST. Well, that's awesome. Taking yet another cue from Fate. The Trix fire on Robin and Bloom finally powers up, only for Icy to try to take her power. There's a little back and forth and then Bloom's out of control, setting off the fire alarms. The Trix flee as the fire department gets there and a firefighter blasts Bloom with water. Oh, shit, it's Mike! I did not see that coming. Totally forgot he was a firefighter. Bloom hugs him and asks if they can talk.
Back at home, Robin explains that Alfea is a school for magical students. Mike and Vanessa aren't surprised. Vanessa's like "We're your parents. Of course we knew." Apparently the admission forms also turned into glowing butterflies. Heh. Bloom says that classes are hard, the other fairies don't need her, and she just causes trouble.
VANESSA: We know this isn't easy, but hard things never are.
Wow. Deep. Sigh.
The other Winx arrive via portal. Aisha apologizes for things being uncomfortable "after the fire thing." They really could have been more understanding of a brand new fairy. Everyone says they miss her and Bloom is eager to return. Stella calls up a portal and...wait, Robin, where's your bike? We'll never know.
Before the ceremony, Bloom tries to apologize to Damien but he says "Spare me." Kinda don't blame him.
FG says there must always be a balance between fairies and witches and invites the new students to stand up. Bloom still worries she's a witch but Stella says "That is so not happening." There really is no test. Both headmistresses just use their magic to see. I love the hooded witch, by the way. And a lot of the background ones. FG and Griffin are impressed by Bloom's power and FG declares her a fairy. Griffin says for Damien to come up, too, as he's old enough for regular classes. Damien has both dark and light, but any darkness leans toward Griffin's side, so she calls him a warlock. Interesting indeed! They definitely learned from Fate.
Flora might have a thing for Damien. Hope that doesn't spell doom for Helia. I liked Helia.
In the Trix lair, Griffin says there was another attack on a fairy on Earth, and there will be repercussions if the culprits break the rules again. After she leaves, Darcy asks "Will we break the rules again?" Icy responds "Again and again and again."
END
This was a pretty solid episode. I liked everyone overall. I like the Fate-inspired changes a lot. Girls as Specialists, boys using magic. I'm in.
I am hoping the next one gives us more of the other Winx girls, as well as not being yet another "Bloom does something reckless and stupid" episode. I need a break after two of those. But I do like her a lot more now than after Episode 1.
