After seeing a couple posts on Insta where people found the new Playmates Winx dolls in Target (so far Bloom, Stella and Flora only that I've seen), I decided to swing in Target after work.
I did not expect to find anything. We certainly don't have the Totally Rad MLPs or the Oasis MH.
BUT WE HAD FLORA!!!!
She was the only one there and I had three to choose from. Not sure if the case is four and one was bought or if the case is three.
$17.99. I was worried she wouldn't ring up, because they're supposed to be out on the 5th, but she did. No problems. Whew!
Boring back of the box. I prefer doll photos to show images. Or both. Both is good.
She was easy to open. Not even any plastic tabs poking through her head to clip off.
The box contains only the doll. These are basic, so don't expect things like a stand or comb.
My first impression is that yes, she's a simple doll, but she's also a pretty doll. It seems obvious to me that these are more kid-friendly budget-type dolls, especially at that price. Adoorbs cost the same now, for example.
The only part of her hair that's gelled is the little bangs.
I can't tell what the fiber is. It's pretty much a waste of time asking me that. I was never good at it unless it was really obvious. But it's softer than I expected.
Her face is quite pretty. Definitely on the pixelated side, but so much is nowadays.
I did have three to pick from and this one stood out from the other two. I think her face is set a little lower, but she was the prettiest one.
The dress is quite nicely made. It has one long piece of velcro down the back for easy dressing. There's also a white ribbon crotch strap to hold it in place.
I like all the layers on the skirt. Each "petal" is separate and they're two different materials.
The flowers on the arms are held down with rubber bands.
The boots are a little glitter crusty for me, but not bad.
Her hair has this huge blonde streak. Not sure if they all do or if this is just mine.
She does have tinsel. I already picked off that piece above her left ear that looks a little fried.
LOVE the wings. They took a nod from Jakks here.
They flap easily, but also feel quite sturdy.
The peg is a W.
She has a simple body, but it's nice. I like the thicker thighs.
She's easy to pose, holds poses quite well, and she feels sturdy.
She has weirdly tiny feet though! They're really not that small, but I'm just so used to dolls having bigger feet.
There's the back with the hole for the wings to fit into. They don't feel loose, so I think they'll stay on nicely.
She can sit, though there is a little resistance at the hips. I don't know how to describe it. They feel kind of springy? But I got her to sit fairly easily.
This is after I washed the gel out of her bangs. (I realized after that I forgot to do a seated photo.) I molded them to her face so they hopefully hold a nice shape after drying.
Height-wise, she's similar to Rainbow High.
Overall, I love her and I'm so pleased to see Winx back on the shelves! I'm excited to watch the show.
The doll is simple, yes, but I don't see a doll aimed at collectors here. This is a doll for kids, so having basic articulation, being sturdy, and that lower price point are all nice for the target market.
She's a nice quality doll. She just doesn't have the precious articulation that so many people are still a little too attached to. (This attitude has been annoying me since the heyday of MH.)
