UPDATE: Just Play's Little Mermaid mini plush

Found them! My Target finally put out their new Little Mermaid stuff and the case of mini plush was there along with it. There were six inside and I was lucky enough that it was the same case I'd bought my others from, so the ones left were my two Ariels from last time and the four I still needed.

So we've got:

Mala and Tamika

Karina and Indira

Caspia, Perla and Ariel.

Now in terms of finding who you want, it is EASY. All the shells popped open without trouble and I had no trouble IDing most of them.

Mala is the only one with black hair and her tiara is very visible.

Ariel is the only one with reddish hair.

Caspia's pink is definitely different than Karina's very pale lavender. I tried to capture that here, but it's even more obvious in person.

The slightly trickier ones are these three, but honestly, they're still very easy.

With Perla, you're going to look for that blue stitching. She also has slightly darker hair than Indira and Tamika.

Indira and Tamika do have the same shade of hair, but Indira's golden dots makes her easy to distinguish. I did not immediately see the yellow of Tamika's headband, but after I poked at her, I did see the edge of it.

I hope this helps everyone find who they want. These are SO cute!

IN STOCK: Little Mermaid Pillow Buddies

Target has some awesome pillow buddies for the new Little Mermaid live action! I ordered the three sisters last night. If I like them, I may get Ariel, too, but at 21", these girls are pretty big and will take up space. Their stock images are not flattering either, so I'm hoping I get some good faces, because they're not in my store to see. I had to have them shipped.

There are also a couple starfish and some bedding available. These are very fairly priced at $19.99.

I'm looking forward to seeing them, though I do wish they'd chosen different sisters. I feel like they keep picking Mala and Caspia for things because they have pink on them. Karina and Mala both have Disney plush, though I don't know how we'll get them yet. I've only seen them on ebay from the UK. Tamika would have been a nice addition here and of course, I would have loved to see Perla. When I first quickly saw these on IG from work, I thought Mala was Perla and was very disappointed to see otherwise. At least they all have those mini plush, I guess.

UPDATE: Just Play's Little Mermaid mini plush

I've got an update on the Just Play mini plush!

First, I got my two from my shipped online order...and got two Ariels AGAIN. This time though, I was able to pop the tops open to see the hair and I knew they were her. I tried to do that on my first ones, but they weren't budging, so it's possible some are wrapped more tightly than others. But all you have to do is squeeze and the top of the shell will open a bit. You can check the hair and then close it back up if it's a double.

So how did Perla and Indira join Ariel? I was able to do another pickup order from my Target! And this time, I got two I needed. I think they're pulling from the same case, but I also returned my double Ariels, so I can't do another pickup because you know damn well those Ariels will keep haunting me.

I'm waiting to find these in stores to get the other four sisters. No more pickups. I wanted these two most anyway.

So there are no codes on these. They all have the same numbers by the barcodes. But you don't need them because you can hair peek.

Ariel is the only one with reddish-brown hair. With Perla, I saw the blue stitching detail and with Indira, her gold stitching is visible. Karina and Caspia should be easy to tell, while Tamika and Mala have a headband and tiara so those should be visible.

Second update is that there is another set of mini plush with NINE characters instead of seven. The additional two are Triton and Ursula. The Target ones clearly say seven. I'm not sure where the set of nine is sold. I'm hoping Walmart so I have a good chance of them being put out on shelves.

REVIEW: Mattel Little Mermaid Sisters figure set

The sisters figures arrived from Target this evening.

I love these. As much as I love the original sisters, the colors and translucent materials used on these is far better than the plain tails of the originals.

Standing them is predictably difficult, so these aren't the best pics.

Caspia and Indira

Karina, Mala and Tamika

Perla and Ariel

Everyone seated.

I like Tamika best of these, followed by Perla and surprisingly, Caspia.

This is definitely worth buying.

REVIEW: Mattel Little Mermaid Ultimate Sisters 7-Pack

I have been waiting for these ladies for what feels like ages!

I think this is the second largest doll set I've ever gotten. The Ralph Breaks the Internet princesses are the only bigger one I can think of.

These dolls are all gorgeous and well worth the $100 price point.

I'm going to show them in the order they're packaged in.

So this is Caspia.

I thought she'd be my least fave aside from Ariel, but she's quite pretty in person.

Caspia is the fifth sister, if you follow the order in the Guide to Merfolk book. I know Mala is eldest and she's first in order, so I'm guessing that's what they were going for.

Caspia rules the Apneic Sea.

She's described as selfless and a little bit reclusive. She values knowledge and is very protective of coral.

The stunning Indira.

Seriously, she's way gorgeous.

Indira is the fourth sister and rules the Brinedive Sea. She's described as generous, empathetic and kind, but also an excellent diplomat and skilled debater.

In Against the Tide, which I really need to get back to reading, Indira and Caspia are inseparable.

This is my #1 girl. I love every single bit of Perla's design.

She's an incredibly striking doll.

Love how they did her hair.

Perla is the sixth sister, so she's the one right before Ariel. In Against the Tide, she's the one Ariel talks to most.

Perla rules the Piton Sea. She's described as charismatic, thoughtful, and good-natured.

Karina is the one who looks like she'd be my fave, but no. She's more middle of the pack.

She's pretty, just less standout unique than several others.

Karina is third oldest. She rules the dark, icy Saithe Sea. Karina is described as the most reclusive, the most decisive, and gifted with animals.

I decided to take pics as I sat the doll I'd just finished reviewing down next to another.

I really want to love Mala, but she's my least fave other than Ariel. The actress and doll are gorgeous, but I'm just not feeling this color scheme.

Her face is so pretty, but the colors. I think it's because there have simply been too many pink mermaid dolls. Something about the ruffles and colors and the little headband feels like it's been done before.

Mala is the eldest and rules the Chaine Sea. She is the most fearless of the bunch, strong, intrepid, and apparently has a good sense of humor, too.

The semi-warmer-toned sisters.

This is my favorite after Perla. Tamika is STUNNING.

I think she has the best top and tail design.

Beautiful but slightly hard to take pics of. Her eyes kept catching the flash.

Tamika is the second oldest and rules the Fracus Sea. She's described as tactical and ruling with an iron fist, both a mighty warrior and a fierce ruler.

In Against the Tide, Tamika hasn't been seen since their mother's death, so I'm intrigued by her story. I really need to go read that.

These three look awesome together.

And finally, Ariel.

Compared to the others, she is a bit of an odd mer out. I didn't mind the slightly oversized, cartoony eyes when she was by herself, but next to all her sisters with their more regular proportions, she's a tad out of place.

Ariel is the seventh and youngest of Triton's daughters. She rules the Carinae Sea. She's described as spirited, sensitive, and very interested in the human world.

Forgive the BEGoths down there, but this was the only way to get a photo of all seven without them tipping over.

The tails have pretty good articulation and I think these overall are very well-done. I love all the different colors and fin styles. The hair is decent quality. These are great dolls for the price. I can only imagine what they would have cost with elbow and wrist articulation like I'm sure some people will complain about. Their face sculpts are lovely. I'm so happy to have them! Now I just need to go read more about them.

REVIEW: Jakks' Petite Little Mermaid Tamika & Caspia

Tamika and Caspia arrived from Walmart today.

I'm combining their reviews into one, because I have fewer pics than I had with Mala.

I love Tamika. She's probably my second favorite of the sisters.

Beautiful!

Then we've got Caspia.

She's cute.

A bit different colors than the larger Caspia doll.

And here are all three! Tamika is definitely my fave.

REVIEW: Jakks' Petite Little Mermaid Mala

I've been going Daughters of Triton crazy and have dolls coming in from Target, Walmart and Amazon. (Amazon has the Ultimate 7-doll set in stock, by the way.)

The first arrival, via Walmart, is Petite Mala by Jakks.

These are $9.97.

A very quick deboxing. She's held by plastic straps at the tail, wrists and neck. No stupid tabs in her head.

Her clothes velcro in the back, which is an interesting choice.

Because they don't come off. Her entire body is one solid piece. No waist joint of any kind.

I don't think I've ever seen a mermaid doll that had her tail as fabric over a skintone plastic "tail."

It's a very unusual choice.

She's a pretty little doll and as I collect all things Ariel's sisters, I'm happy to have her. But I wouldn't say these petite dolls are the best toys in the Little Mermaid lines. Even for younger kids, I'd go for the figure multipack over these.

REVIEW: Just Play's The Little Mermaid Mini Plush

Today was the first big Little Mermaid live action merchandise blitz. Both Amazon and Target have several products up. I'm honestly not a big fan of Ariel, except the version in the old chapter books which happened before the movie. However, I have been collecting merchandise of the daughters of Triton for years. I really loved those chapter books and the pin-up style Ariel & Her Sisters line from many years ago at the Disney Store.

So with the new movie, I'm mostly after the stuff with the diverse array of new sisters. I ordered the figure set from Target, and I'm watching for the 7-doll pack and the mini toddler dolls of Mala, Caspia and Tamika. What I wasn't expecting was a set of blind-packed mini plush. These are done by Just Play and cost $5.99 each at Target. What I'm not thrilled about are the restrictions. I could only do a pick-up order for 2 of them. It said 8 were in stock, but after my order, only 2 were left. I tried to order them, too, but it wouldn't let me.

I'm unsure if there are codes. There's a letter/number combo on the left above the barcode, and there's a 5-digit number on the right. It could be either one of these. Or it could be neither and there are no codes.

Why can't I tell? Well, because both of mine had the same numbers.

I made a joke before I picked them up that I'd get 2 Ariels. There are 8 per case, so obviously, she's the one that's doubled up.

Welcome to my blind-pack luck, y'all. I could only get two. I like Ariel least. So I got both Ariels that would have been in the case.

I'm grateful to have gotten any at all, but I really wish I'd gotten at least one sister. But extra Ariel will be going off to a good home and I'll be reading my Little Mermaid books with my own Ariel.

I placed an order for two more and was very annoyed that again, there was a max of two AND you have to spend $35 to get them shipped. I hope they show in stores soon. And hopefully these next two will be new ones so I can see if those numbers really are codes.

If you've found these ladies, please let me know about the codes! I'd love to get that info for everyone.

REVIEW: Little Mermaid 30th Anniversary Sisters Pack

I remembered the Ariel, Arista and Aquata larger doll set from ToyFair, but I don't remember seeing these small ones. I did see the larger set, but opted for the $24.99 option that included all the sisters instead. Though I'm sure I'll get the $29.99 bigger dolls eventually.

I'm a sucker for Ariel's sisters. I honestly don't like Ariel that much or the movie either, but I love the book series set before the movie that delves deeper into the characters of all the sisters. My bathroom theme is mermaids because I have so much stuff of the sisters!

Here's the back of the box. This would have been a cool cutout to stick behind my display shelves in my bathroom, but I hate that they took my favorite and stuck her back to the "camera," so to speak.

This is a bit of a reminder though of how obvious these designs are and that they had this info in their hands, yet still didn't do the set perfectly.

Arista. Andrina. Alana.

Alana is almost perfect, although I think of her as the pinky-purple one, not the purple.

Andrina, too, looks good aside from the color change. She's purple, not pink.

Arista has the right color, but the wrong hairstyle. She's always had a long ponytail, not Andrina's updo.

Attina, my favorite! And Ariel.

These two look pretty perfect.

Adella and Aquata.

Now look at the back of the box. Aquata has much lighter hair than Adella. She always has. So why do the toys have the wrong hair colors?

I've always thought of all seven sisters as having the same color eyes, but these dolls have different colors. And if any of the sisters were to be brown-eyed, it'd be Adella.

So...

FIXED.

It was easy to pop and swap their heads. The only thing wrong is that Aquata's got a yellow hair deco now, but oh, well. No big deal.

A few bits of color weirdness aside, these are super adorable. I love the faces on each one. Attina's my favorite, but Alana comes in second.

I think the set's rather overpriced, but it's also worth it if you love these girls. It's not like toys of them are made that often.
