REVIEW: Boxy Girls Riley and Brooklyn Dolls & Fashion Packs

Got a new product to check out today! Boxy Girls were the other thing I was looking for at the farther Walmart and they came through.

That store had Riley, Nomi and Brooklyn, along with the fashion pack. No Willa. These seem to be one character per case. Like they had 8 Riley, 4 Brooklyn and 4 Nomi.

The dolls are $14.94 and the fashion packs are $9.98 or something like that. I can never remember the exact change amounts of Walmart's prices.

Here's Riley straight out of the box. She's 8" tall. I should have done some size comparisons, but I didn't. No undressed pic either. What can I say? I was pretty excited to get those boxes open and play with redressing.

She has articulated wrists and knees, and she's quite poseable.

Her top and dress are two separate pieces.

And she can totally "Come at me, bro." She ended up in this position when I deboxed her and I just laughed.

The gimmick for Boxy Girls is pretty cute. Each doll comes with four shipping boxes. These girls have as much fun online-ordering as I do clearly!

The boxes are each addressed to the girl, so you can see where she lives. Riley here is from Nashville, TN.

Riley's goodies were a necklace and silver star earrings,  a pair of purple heels, a silver purse, and a hair extension. Each box also contains either two stickers or a sticker and a cardboard note.

The fashion pack contains 6 boxes, one of which is a lot bigger.

Three of these were for Riley, Nomi and Brooklyn. One box each. (Nomi is from Nevada and Brooklyn is not from Brooklyn. Weird. She's from San Francisco.)

Riley got a denim skirt, Brooklyn a cute top and Nomi some lavender sandals.

Willa got the three other boxes. Willa, by the way is from Venice Beach, FL. Being a Floridian now, I must have her.

She got a cute pair of pink sandals in one box, a wild pair of gold earrings, a gold bracelet and a nail polish bottle all together, and a giant pair of pineapple sunglasses.

Here's Riley wearing her stock top, fashion pack skirt, and all the accessories from her stock boxes.

The skirt has nice stitching on it that her top covers up.

All the pieces are really well-made.

And here's Riley in the fashion pack pieces.

This does not seem her style, poor thing.

She holds poses super well and I love the shape of her legs and feet. Her hands are cute, too.

Her hair is decent. Not the best, not the worst.

Sorry, Riley, someone had to wear them and you're the only one here.

See the cute leg pose? I love that.

I like these earrings on her, but not with this outfit.

All the stuff I got is really casual.

It turned out that Mom forgot to grab butter while we were at this Walmart, so off we went to my local one that just yesterday had no Boxy Girls.

Surprise! They had Brooklyn and Riley out, so I grabbed Brooklyn and another fashion pack.

Brooklyn has a super cute dress and I adore her shoes. Two colors of paint on one pair of shoes. That's becoming rarer, I swear.

This is what Brooklyn had in her boxes: a pair of giant hoop earrings and a blue bracelet, a shell purse, a citrus purse, and some silver wedge sneakers.

The sneakers don't really seem very her, but eh, sure.

Here she is with her new bracelet and purse.

I do really love that shell one, too.

This is the first time in a long time where I'm really hoping they make basic dolls with like one shipping box accessory so I can have more to redress.

And here's Riley again, now with the contents of the second fashion pack!

I honestly did not pay attention to the names on the boxes this time, but I know those glasses were Willa's, even though they're way more Riley's style. I remember thinking "Hey, why does she get both big boxes?" The skirt, shoes (same as Riley's from the boxes included with her doll) and kitty compact and lipstick were all Riley's. The compact and lipstick came with another pair of those big hoop earrings like Brooklyn's, too. I forgot to put them back in the pic.

The rainbow purse was Willa's. I'm thinking the purple top had to be Nomi's then.

The people at Jay at Play must really love purple. I don't have much of this stuff, but I already have so many purple bits! There's not even a top I could really match to this fab skirt, but there was no way she wasn't wearing this, so I just put purple with it.

I tried it with the silver sneakers, but that's a no.

So these are their final looks!

Honestly, in Walmart the first time, I looked at Brooklyn and Nomi and went "Nah, I don't need these. They're cute, but I can stick to just one."

And then I opened Riley and had fun posing her and opening all the boxes. Nope, these girls are addicting.

I may go back for Nomi in a few days unless she shows up at one of the closer stores first...

I think Jay at Play really hit it out of the park here. The fashion doll market was ripe for something new and what's really popular right now? Blind box anything. So put a fashion doll with a blind box element out and I think they're going to have a hit on their hands.

The fashion packs differ obviously, so I can already say I'll be buying more! And I'll get Nomi and Willa, too, as soon as I see them. Well done, Jay at Play.

REVIEW: Shoppies Pommie and Lolita Pops

I was thrilled today when I went to the farther Walmart and found all three of the things I really wanted!

First up are Pommie and Lolita Pops from the new Season 10 Shoppies Shop Style line.

These are more basic offerings than the past Shoppies, because they are the fabulous low price of $9.97 each.

Each doll comes with one Shopkin (instead of 2), a stand, a comb and a little card. No more fancy plastic cards or big lumpy purses. I'm okay with that for the cheaper price.

If you remember, I already have Jascenta and Summer Peaches from this line. (Mine are just missing the combs.) So these were the only two I needed to complete my set.

I was so excited to finally get my hands on Pommie! After Jascenta, she was the one I wanted most. She's even better in person, too, because I got to see her hair from the back and it's curltastic.

You wouldn't think I'd love the pink one so much, but her pinks are all ones I like, and she's got nice other colors, too.

I love her big smile!

Awwww, yeah, lookit those curls! Love them!

I'm also amused that when I turned her, I also turned her Shopkin, who is apparently also mesmerized by her giant curly pigtails.

Okay, maybe not that giant. Sorry, Valentina, that's your game.

But they're still pretty big!

I love her boots.

And her bracelet.

I really think these S10 Shoppies are better designed than a lot of the earlier ones that cost $5 more. I dunno. I'm just loving these four ladies.

Like Lolita here.

I actually like her the least of the four, but she's still splendid.

Her peace sign hand is adorable and I love how they sculpted her mouth.

The name might not be the best choice, but eh, kids aren't going to know. Or they shouldn't anyway!

So yeah, I highly recommend all four of these girls. The price is certainly right and the designs are lovely.

REVIEW: Shopkins Shoppies Li'l Secrets

All right, it's the 23rd, so let's get this review on the road. I was up late writing, so probably a zillion of these have already been showed, but they're all on Youtube and Instagram, so at least I'm still old school. Ha.

I already shared the box photos in the preview, so I'm jumping right into the toy review. I received the Donutina set. I like that they're not blind. The character is right on the front of the lock and her art on the box, so when I want more, I can aim right for the ones I like best.

Here's the back of the box, showing all six sets that are currently available.

As you can see, the lock itself and a foil packet are included in the package.

These are basically the Shopkins version of Polly Pockets. You open up the playset and there's a little location inside with a couple moving parts that you can move the doll and tiny Shopkin through.

A closer look at the others available.

Back row: Lolita Pops with a candy shop, Donutina, and Bell with something pet-related.

Front row: Daisy Petals' garden, Lippy Lulu's makeup shop, and Jessicake's bakery.

As you can see, the Shopkins come in different finishes, so there's a tiny bit of the blind aspect to these after all.

The gold foil packet contains a checklist and a secret map.

Let's have a quick look at the checklist.

The So Sweet Candy playset comes with Lolita Pops and Butterscotch Bridget. The possible special finish for Bridget is glitter.

Then there's my Donutina set, the Donut Stop. Her secret finish is also glitter, but you also have the blind aspect of not knowing which Shopkin you'll get. She has Li'l Donut Hole or Sarah Cereal Donut.

Bell, who was Isabell at Toy Fair, comes with the Pretty Paws set. Her Shopkin is Buddy Bone and the special finish is fluffy (flocked).

And then Daisy Petals has the Pretty Petals set and either Sunny Sunflower (ah, Rose Petal Place flashback) or Hannah Hibiscus. Their special finish is glitter. I honestly am a little miffed about some of these having 2 Shopkins, because I really like both of Daisy's, but I'm not buying a bunch of $10 sets trying to get them both.

And here's the back of the list.

Jessicake comes with Great Bakes Cupcakes. Her Clover Cupcake Shopkin's secret finish is metallic.

The Make Up Salon comes with Lippy Lulu and Fluffy Brushy, also possibly in metallic.

Then we've got three that aren't out yet: Pineapple Lilly, Peppa Mint and Pirouetta. Again, Pineapple Lilly has two great Shopkins. Argh.

Okay, let's look at the toy itself, then we'll go back to the secret map.

One thing though, the secret map tells you to scratch off three drawings to find the code that will unlock your lock. You DO NOT have to ruin your map. The code is both printed on the lock itself and on the bottom of the map. Don't scratch off the cute art!

Here are the lock and the foil packet.

Pretty self-explanatory.

Here's Jascenta with the lock so you can get an idea of scale.

And the back of the lock.

See, the code is right there on it.

So you turn the three little dials on the front to each of the code symbols on the back and the lock pops open.

Ta da, there's the Donut Stop.

Donutina and her Shopkin were in a little plastic bag.

I did not get the special finish. And I got Sarah Cereal Donut. I wanted the other one! She's still cute though.

The top part of the lock has the checkout counter.

There's a little spot for Donutina to stand. Her base slides right into it, so she's even stable. The Shopkin can sit a few different places.

The counter opens up and there's another little door inside, so there's space to hide more Shopkins.

The bottom has two spaces for Donutina to stand on the stairs and two spaces with pegs to help the Shopkin sit in place. (It has a hole in the bottom.)

If you turn the display in the front right corner, the little booth spins around.

It's a pretty simple little playset, but that's what I expected.

And just to emphasize how small these are, here's Jascenta holding Donutina!

I was a little disappointed I got Donutina. I really wanted Bell, Daisy, Lolita or Lulu. But she's actually quite cute and I like her hair color and style.

Now let's look at the secret map. This is one side.

And the other side!

It was so long, it didn't fit on my scanner, so this is the left side.

And that's the right.

I love this thing, because there's a lot to look at and the art is really cute.

If you came for the toy review, you might want to head out now, because for the rest of this review, I'm just going to share cropped images of the characters in this map, so we can see and squeal over which ones are coming.

There are a lot of characters on here other than the ones with the lock playsets. This Li'l Secrets line is also getting blind box sets with smaller lockets that have a doll inside. So I believe all, or at least a lot of, the other characters on the secret map are from that assortment.

So who are we getting?

I have these in alphabetical order, so let's just stick with that. I'm showing everyone, including the lock girls.

Here's Bell from the lock sets. She's so cute.

It didn't dawn on me that this was Coralee right away, because she's not tan enough. Hopefully the toy is tan like her other two toys.

Love the art though. Super cute!

Donutina

This is the one I'm most excited for that I didn't already know about. Fria Froyo! I initially wasn't a huge fan of Fria's Happy Places design, but it's grown on me a lot lately and I really want this little toy of her.

Jessicake

Pineapple Lily

Lolita Pops. She has the cutest art. I love it.

Lippy Lulu

Daisy Petals and Melodine. Melodine was one of the ones shown at Toy Fair for two seconds, so she is confirmed for the mini blind-packed locks.

Bella Bow and Mia Milk. Mia was also confirmed at Toy Fair for the mini locks. I might have seen Bella, but I don't remember. The coverage of the mini locks was not the best.

Peppa Mint

And Pirouetta, both from upcoming bigger locks.

Spaghetti Sue! I love Sue. She was one of my early favorites. I saw her in the Toy Fair coverage, so she is definitely a mini lock.

Naturally, they took the one I'm most excited for and buried her art under the white spot with the stupid scratch off thing. I love Summer Peaches, but why is she the only one so hidden behind other things? Summer was shown with the mini locks at Toy Fair. I need her.

Tiara Sparkles

And Valentina, who looks really cute.

So the ones likely in the first range of mini lockets are: Coralee, Fria Froyo, Melodine, Bella Bow, Mia Milk, Spaghetti Sue, Summer Peaches, Tiara Sparkles and Valentina. That's only nine, so maybe there will be some more? Actually, wait, Valentina has the special doll that comes with a locket, so perhaps the blind box girls are only the other eight. But Marsha Mello's not on this map and she's also part of that doll with locket line, so who knows? We shall see over the next few months!

I hope you guys enjoyed all of this. I'd like to thank Moose Toys for sending me one of the early release Li'l Secrets. It was fun to see something new, especially something based on a product with such nostalgia attached to it for some. I honestly was not into Polly Pocket, but I know a lot of people who were.

I would recommend these for anyone who likes Polly Pocket and I think older kids will have fun with them. I wouldn't give these to a younger child though, because the pieces are unbelievably tiny and pretty soon, they're going to have just a bunch of playsets and no dolls or Shopkins, because these are going to be super easy to lose unless they're careful. If your kid collects LOL Surprise and can actually keep all the shoes on their dolls, they could handle one of these!
