Finally getting back on track! I've been exhausted from work and feeling a little sick this week, but I'm going to try to get some more eps under my belt.
Stella, Musa, Flora and Aisha are excited to go to Magixia for the weekend. Bloom is confused, so Tecna starts to explain that Magixia is the capital of Magix, but Stella interrupts and says all she needs to know is that it's the most magical city in the entire magical universe. Tecna doesn't look thrilled to be going, but they head for the gates. Until Griselda stops them, slamming the gates shut magically. She says their Magic of Botany project was incomplete. Stella failed at doing her part, because of course she did. So instead of her just finishing that up really fast and then getting to go, apparently they're stuck at school for the entire weekend. Typical Griselda. Always blowing things out of proportion.
Out in the forest, Flora conjures up a cute little science sample kit thingy. Bloom complains and Tecna tells her "Complaining won't be effective." Bloom replies that Tecna isn't exactly desperate to go to Magixia, and Tecna says too many people aren't her thing. Some of the girls complain to Robin about Griselda, saying they've been busy. You know, if you just found the damn spores and got this over with, it'd be faster than all the time you're taking up bitching. Robin is more lenient than Griselda though and she lets them go, as long as they're back in time for dinner and finish the assignment tomorrow.
Stella calls up a portal and everyone is about to enter, but then Bloom sees Damien. Flora goes to talk to him, saying she bets he wonders what they're doing. He says he didn't see a thing and she thanks him, saying "What a good friend." Damien says he just doesn't care what they're doing. The girls head through the portal.
In the barn, Vexius appears. He berates Damien for being distracted by "that fairy of nature," so it seems like this is a bit of a two-sided interest. Damien says they're going to Magixia without permission. Vexius says that will be the perfect opportunity to steal Bloom's power. Damien asks how he can help and Vexius says the Trix will handle it, because he's not ready. He also warns Damien to stop messing with fairies, because Damien is only to be loyal to him.
In Magixia, Bloom is wowed by everything. Stella lists off all the shopping she wants to do, then everyone else chimes in with what they want. Flora wants a view from somewhere, Musa wants live music, Tecna wants quiet. I don't think Aisha said anything, aside from suggesting they split up. Bloom protests that they need to do things together and asks Tecna for help. She calculates that everything is possible if they leave immediately, but no, here come the boys. Minus Timmy. Riven greets Musa and she frowns, then magics up headphones, saying she'll catch up to them later. Interrrrrrrresting. Riven comments that she's acting weird and Stella says she's sure a smart guy like him can figure out why. Well, considering they've interacted never onscreen, the audience sure can't. But I already like new Riven way better than old Riven.
The guys and girls part ways and shortly, Darcy appears in a store window. Icy and Stormy are already in the store. Darcy suggests they attack while everyone is distracted, but Icy says they only want Bloom. Stormy asks what the plan is. Icy says divide and conquer.
Elsewhere, Damien is watching the Winx and addresses a little salamander named Sally, asking if she remembers the plan. She nods. NO ONE HAD BETTER HURT SALLY. I WILL RIOT. Damien sends Sally, a fire-eating salamander, to get some of Bloom's flame.
Bloom recognizes a tune and they follow it to find Musa playing a UFO-shaped instrument. She's happy to see them and says she wanted them to hear her song.
Damien notes that Sally senses Bloom's flame. Behind him, the Trix appear. Stormy's about to blast him, but Icy says maybe they can use him. She casts a spell on Sally, which turns her into a giant salamander. People freak out. Everyone runs around as if they don't know what magic is. The Winx run around helping people, while Damien gets to Sally, only to be knocked aside by her. Bloom tries to help but gets hit also.
YOU IDIOTS ARE FAIRIES, FFS.
Bloom gets knocked off a bridge and crawls back up.
YOU CAN FLY IF YOU TRANSFORM. WTF IS THIS WRITING? This is the first time I've had a bigger issue with how they've written a scene. Are they not supposed to transform outside the school?
Sky appears and tells Bloom there are civilians that need help. Without helping her up. Yeah, that's Darcy. And it is.
Bloom is now on her own and Icy freezes her to a wall. Sally blasts Icy off her feet. Icy disappears and Sally aims for Bloom but misses.
Bloom finds the others and they finally freakin' transform. Idiots, I tell you.
So the girls take on Sally. I see that Flora still has her original series problem. She uses vines way too much.
Not much battle progress.
The boys arrive. Riven goes for a strike but Damien knocks him over, yelling "Don't hurt her!"
Bloom asks if Sally is Damien's and he explains that she's just a salamander and he doesn't know what happened to her.
Brandon activates an emergency signal.
Robin is training and gets the signal, which creates a screen showing what's happening. Naturally, Griselda appears and sees this.
Bloom is effectively luring Sally with her fireballs, as Sally senses that's what she's supposed to get. Then Damien jumps in front of Sally and asks if she recognizes him, only to be swatted away. Sigh. Bloom's plan had been working.
Griffin and FG come to the rescue. The Trix flee. FG returns Sally to normal. Bloom thanks her and FG demands everyone come to her office.
Wait, did Damien just leave Sally? He better not have.
FG says a fairy should know her limits and they should have come to her. Um, when? I guess Stella could have opened a portal and gone for help, but they were kinda busy trying to contain Sally. Robin and the Winx are grounded for a week. FG seals their powers for a week.
Okay, Damien does have Sally. Whew. She leaps off his hands and runs for it though, as the Trix are waiting.
ICY: Welcome back...beastmaster.
Ah, the one good line in the entire episode!
Vexius goes off on a rant. You know, I think Sally might have been able to pull this off if not for Icy though. Damien gets yelled at. The Trix are smug and leave.
In the courtyard, Stella tells Bloom to go for Sky, but Flora says things will get messy. Uh, yeah, he has a girlfriend and unlike in the original, Bloom knows it. She says as much. At least she can think clearly sometimes. Flora brings up Damien. Aisha says he's not bad.
TECNA: He gets right to the point. I like him.
And everyone thinks this is hilarious for some reason, but I think that's more genuine than a lot of things the others have said.
Damien hears it all and smiles, then his magic activates a bit stronger. Interesting.
END
Okay, this is the first episode I've actively disliked. It's filler garbage for the most part. There's a hint at Flora/Damien and Musa/Riven. It is nice to see Bloom be realistic about Sky and Diaspro.
Overall, I didn't like what most of the cast did. Tecna was the strongest Winx by far and I liked Flora, too. Musa a little, though her brooding flight from Riven was odd. If they gave some backstory there, it would help.
I hated that they waited so long to transform. And FG's reason for punishing them was weak. This whole thing seems like a setup to make them powerless, but it's a big stretch.
I also hated that Icy ruined Damien's plan when if she'd just sat back, it might have worked. Definitely the Trix's worst showing yet.
Not a lot of favorites this time. Tecna, Flora, Damien, Riven, Musa. That's it really.
